The rigors encountered in assessing healthcare has militated the efforts of stakeholders in the provision of health and surgical care for the people. Many a time, finance and proximity to the health facility have continued to pose a stumbling block towards meeting the health indices in most rural communities.
Patani residents and environs benefited from the three days free medical outreach for Bomadi/Patani federal constituency which took place at Patani General Hospital. Beneficiaries of the medical mission could not hide their appreciation for RAHI Medical outreach for the three days medical rescue mission in the locality.
The planning stage for the successful outreach was held prior to the commencement of the programme to assign responsibilities to heads of units with the intent of addressing envisaged challenges. Patani community was not left out at this planning as an advanced team was sent to the community for proper community mobilization and sensitization.
The free medical mission provided free voluntary counseling and testing as well as disease screening services. Surgical procedures for patients billed for surgery after medical examination were carried out by the team of surgeons.
Dental services which included routine tooth extraction and care were prominent at the dental surgery unit.
Dental prosthesis at the dental technology unit for patients with missing teeth was assessed by the patients at the outreach.
Ophthalmic services for visual acuity were carried out at the unit while reading glasses for visual impairments were also provided.
Most importantly, the outpatients unit provided the opportunity for patients to interact with the doctors with their complaints as it relates to health issues. The rural folks were equally educated on health promotion and wellness.
Regardless of the challenges encountered, it was noted that the free medical outreach addressed the need for qualitative healthcare pertaining to child/maternal morbidity, HIV/AIDS awareness and other health related issues.
