Welcome!
At Rural Africa Health Initiative (RAHI), we are unwavering in our commitment to delivering the quality health services our communities deserve. In our continuous efforts to bridge the healthcare gap, we are excited to extend our reach to you online, 24/7, via our official website.
Our Vision
RAHI envisions creating a model of fully integrated community-based healthcare, where comprehensive medical services and health education thrive in every rural African community. Our goal is to establish a sustainable health system that empowers individuals to live healthier, longer lives. Our overarching mission is: “To support health and wellness in communities by providing treatment, education, and health care services.”
As a dedicated community-based organization, RAHI delivers a range of reliable and high-quality services to those in need. Whether it’s addressing acute illnesses, chronic health conditions, permanent disabilities, or terminal diseases, we are here to provide care and support. One of our standout features is our tailored focus on rural healthcare, which sets us apart from other community-based organizations in Nigeria. We emphasize keeping patients at home, close to their families, rather than in hospitals, through targeted practice guidelines that address common chronic illnesses prevalent in our communities.
Our Mission
RAHI’s mission is to promote wellness and provide quality healthcare to underserved rural communities. We believe that access to healthcare is a basic human right. By staying up to date with the latest developments in healthcare and working collaboratively, we aim to be the leading provider of integrated health services in rural Africa.
Founded in 2000, RAHI began with a clear purpose: to bring healthcare directly to the doorsteps of rural communities, especially those in the riverine areas of the Niger Delta, Nigeria. Registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) under Part C of the Companies and Allied Matters Decree, RAHI continues to grow as a reputable health NGO, recognized and trusted by the local populace.
Our Unique Approach
RAHI’s approach is deeply rooted in its mission to serve areas that are often overlooked by mainstream health initiatives. Our work focuses on the Niger Delta, an area often described as an “African Amazon,” with over 3,000 creeks and communities that are largely inaccessible. These riverine communities face extraordinary challenges, and for them, life is often marked by struggle and hardship.
RAHI dares to venture where others hesitate, bringing hope and fostering better relationships with the communities we serve. By being on the ground and working hand-in-hand with locals, we are able to understand their unique needs and challenges, ensuring that our healthcare delivery is both practical and effective.
Our Partners
The year 2008 was a remarkable one for RAHI. Despite global economic challenges, we successfully completed several vital health projects, thanks to the unwavering support of our partners. We extend special thanks to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Joint Military Task Force (JTF), the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), the National Association of Seadogs (NAS), the University of Benin, Esso Mobil, and Esit-Ekit Local Government Area. We look forward to continued collaboration with our partners as we further our mission in the years to come.
Working with the Rural Populace
We take pride in our deep understanding of the rural African landscape—be it the hinterlands or the riverine regions. Our community-based healthcare approach is at the forefront of preventive and social health services. By working directly with the people and understanding their way of life, we have broadened our reach and maximized our impact. Our experiences have positioned us as a leader in rural healthcare, and we continue to strive for new horizons.
Together, with your support, RAHI will keep pushing boundaries, touching lives, and creating healthier communities across rural Africa.
