Sponsors: RAHI/PHCN Benin Project: Emergency Relief Mission Location: Benin, Edo State Attendance: Date: 1st of October, 2009
INTRODUCTION
The idea to collaborate between our organization and the National Union of Electricity and was invited by the secretary of the Union Mr. Osaro who wrote an official letter to our organization requesting for a collaborative free Medical Service for members of the Union and customers of PHCN within their area of jurisdiction.
However, sequel to the letter, a Board meeting was quickly convened by the Executive Director, Dr. Chris Ekiyor. At the end of the Board meeting, it was unanimously approved.
Modalities for the project was worked out and instruction was given to the various departmental heads to release volunteers for the said project.
AIMS OF THE COLLABORATION
1. As part of the independence celebration; to bring smile to the face of the sick in the area.
2. As part of social responsibility of the organisation to the general public.
3. To assist the less privileged members of the public in meeting up their basic health needs.
4. To assist members of staff and their families in the area that borders on disease prevention.
THE CHALLENGES
1. The turn-out of people far outnumbered the expectation of the organizers, but the dental patients were well attended to.
2. RAHI Medical Outreach operates within its limited budget and from the goodwill of its donor; so it was really difficult to meet the need of the patients with optical cases.
3. This collaboration was initiated as a gift to the people; but most of them felt dissatisfied as their cases were referred.
4. The crowd was really rowdy but was later put under control.
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. The Union of PHCN should organize such projects periodically.
2. Adequate funds should be set aside for such projects.
3. PHCN should partner with other organizations in meeting their social responsibility.
4. Such gestures should be operationally restricted to coverage areas
5. RAHI on its part is ready to do its best to deliver to the customers of PHCN.
CONCLUSION
Special thanks to the National Union of Electricity and Technical Workers who took the step in showing its milk of human kindness to its customers. It is a grand stride in the right direction and we hope for more partnership from other branches.
