RAHI Medical Hospital and NDDC Host HIV Awareness Roadshow in Benin City

On Monday, December 30, 2024, the vibrant streets of Benin City were transformed into a hub of activity as the RAHI Medical Hospital, in partnership with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Arit Walden, organized an impactful HIV Awareness Campaign and Roadshow. This event was part of a month-long program aimed at raising awareness and promoting health-conscious living in commemoration of World AIDS Day.

A Unique Approach to Health Awareness

Dr. Chris Ekiyor, the Medical Director of RAHI Medical Hospital, explained the rationale behind hosting the event during the festive period. In an interview with the press, Dr. Ekiyor shared, “The timing was deliberate. With the festive celebrations in full swing, we wanted to create a unique blend of health awareness and entertainment to attract a diverse audience. Our goal is to encourage people to get tested, know their HIV status, and learn how to live safely.”

He emphasized the importance of integrating health messages into communal celebrations, stating, “By organizing this roadshow during the festive season, we ensure that the message of HIV prevention and safe living reaches as many people as possible amidst the celebrations.”

NDDC’s Commitment to Health Initiatives

The NDDC has been a key driver of this initiative over the past month, demonstrating its commitment to improving public health in the Niger Delta region. According to Dr. Ekiyor, “The NDDC has been actively involved in various health campaigns, including the fight against malaria and other medical missions. This HIV awareness campaign represents another milestone in our collaborative efforts to improve community health.”

Roadshow Highlights

The roadshow featured an exciting mix of music, dance, and educational activities, drawing large crowds across major parts of Benin City. Participants included healthcare professionals, community leaders, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to spread the message of HIV prevention. Informational leaflets were distributed, and on-site testing services were made available to encourage attendees to know their status.

The event also provided a platform for engaging with the public about the importance of regular testing, safe practices, and the need to reduce stigma associated with HIV. The combination of entertainment and health education made the campaign both memorable and impactful.
